Edwardian

_____________________________________________________

Although ubiquitously employed, the term 'Edwardian' is seldom defined as an architectural style but rather a time period spanning the reigns of the Edwards. There is a respect for the past, a historicism used to purvey status. As a continuation of the Victorian it abandoned the free license, rich Adamesque interiors and overpowering eclecticism in favour of a more sober Neo-Classical approach. It is more restrained masculine and austere than the feminine Victorian. (See Union Style)
