Lady Florence Phillips was central to getting the Art Gallery funded, donations of works made, she herself being a benefactor, and having LUTYENS appointed as architect.
In 1987 additions were done in Post Modern style by MEYER PIENAAR AND PARTNERS.

Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, this building
opened its doors in 1915, and was extended
several times over the years. Born out of the
vision of Florence Phillips, the gallery houses a
fine collection of international and
Southern African art.
