A reaction to the Modern and proposed by Venturi this style advocates the use of decoration, playfulness, duality and ambiguous meaning. It has however become license to revert to classical motives in the most base manner and the application of any decoration at random. It has found wide expression in commercial (office parks) and residential (themed housing estates) development.
