Also known as New Elizabeth Hotel, Elizabeth Sun, Holiday Inn and currently (2021) Garden Court. A 14 floor reinforced concrete tower originally over car parking and with shopping mall and cinemas. Fully air conditioned and with all modern facilities, it was for a while the city's only 5 star hotel. It has continued to operate as a hotel since its completion and has been modified over the years and is now the 3 star Garden Court Kings Beach. The hotel was designed and located behind the existing Hotel Elizabeth (1927) so as to enable the old building remain until the new one was completed. This was unfortunate as the new hotel had no connection to the gardens to the front, which were finally sold off in the late 1990's and developed. (Gerald Humphrey, March 2021)
