| | HESSE and HESSE (FW and F)Established: 1909
Architect |
A father-and-son partnership between FW HESSE and F HESSE in Cape Town from 1909. In 1913 they won the competition for the Anatomical and Physiological Laboratories for the South African College, Cape Town, which they then executed in a classical style recalling that of the Dutch seventeenth century. Kesting states they worked from 1904 until 1924 in the Cape Province. They were responsible for Graaff-Reinet town hall, the plans of which were apparently made in 1902 although building commenced only in 1910.
Kesting gives G HESSE as co-architect with FW HESSE on several buildings but nothing else is known of him. G Hesse might be a misprint for F Hesse.
