Born in Hamburg, Germany and landed in East London on 10 11 1877, where he worked as a photographer. Thereafter he established himself on the farm Gatberg in the district of Maclear as a sheep farmer, a practice that failed. He then moved to Barkly East and on 6 June 1887 married Maria Elizabeth Watson (b. 1869). He returned to farming and established himself temporarily on a local farm but as of June 1897 settled on the farm Greenland. He was the first photographer of the district. He died in Barkly East at age 82. His death certificate gave his occupation as "Retired stock farmer". (www.familysearch.org)List of projects With photographs
