Of Almelo, Overijssel in the Netherlands. Arrived in 1890 at the age of 32. He was employed as an engineer for the NZASM based in Pretoria, deported on British occupation of the ZAR in 1900. Commissioned with VAN DER MADE the building of the residence 'Mea Volta'. (Ploeger & de Kock, 1989:231) Served on the Natal front in the South African War, deported in 1900, dying in the Hague two years later (Schoeman, 2011: 207).
