One of the five engineers of the NZASM who left the Netherlands for the ZAR on 28 July 1887, the others of the group being GROLL, STEINMETZ, VAN DER MEULEN and VAN LENNEP. He died of Malaria, buried with his compatriot VAN IJSENDIJK who suffered the same fate in the cemetery which is now part of the golf course at Komatipoort. In Memorium, [1908]: 10 .
