Maeder (1917:183) records this as the Dutch Reformed Church designed by Walter Donaldson of Ficksburg with Cornelis van Zijl of Brandfort as contractor. Weegens de treurige omstandigheden van land en volk in dien tijd, kon er geen feestviering plaats vinden bij de inwijding van het Godsgebouw. 'Because of the sorry circumstances [namely, the year 1899 being when the South African (Anglo-Boer) War commenced] of the country [the then Orange Free State Republic] and its people, they were unable to hold festivities for the inauguration of this House of God'] (Kesting 1978:775, 803; Maeder 1917:183).
