(Heroldt 1988:335) The town Hofmeyr was established in 1873 as Maraisburg, but because there is also a Maraisburg on the West Rand, the town was renamed Hofmeyr in 1911. The local NG congregation continued to be called Maraisburg even though the town’s name had changed. The congregation’s name was finally changed to NG Gemeente Hofmeyr in the 1970s.
