It was built as the official residence for a succession of mine managers. Occupants included Richard (Dick) Barry (1915-1930, Mr JHA Diering (1930-1951), Mr ARC Fowler (1951-1955), and others until 1972 when mining activities ceased. The house had a croquet lawn, tennis court and summer house. The residence was officially opened to the public in January 1983 and is currently a museum.
