Click to view map Coordinates: | Boughton, 4 miles 15 chains (6,7km) from Pietermaritzburg, was the first station on a new double-track section of the Natal Main Line opened on 28 May 1916. The station is named after one of the farms owned by Mr Henry Pepworth at the time. Pepworth (c. 1825–1902) was a prominent British settler, businessman, and former mayor of Pietermaritzburg. "There are three houses at the back of the station, one for each of the foremen, and the third for the ganger. There are also the Indian barracks higher up." (The Natal Witness on 29 May 1916). |
