Click to view large map Coordinates: | Originally a private house it was the residence of the businessman and politician Saul Solomon, who bought the property from James King in the early 1860s and lived here for most of his life. He and his wife Georgiana enjoyed welcoming guests as varied as Cetshwayo, King of the Zulus, and the British Princes Albert and George (later King George V). Comparing the photos of the house with the photo of the hotel on the hotel's page, it looks as though the front portion of the house, including the colonnaded verandah, was retained and was incorporated into the Clarensville Hotel.
