Click to view map Coordinates: | A regional modernist block of holiday flats constructed on the corner of Longfellow Street and Marine Terrace in the Quigney in the 1960's. It comprises two separate blocks entered at Ground floor level at the junction between them on Longfellow Street. A feature of the building was the singular plane of dark blue face-brick forming the southern end of the larger block facing onto Marine Terrace. The building signage was expressed in large white letters applied onto the blue face brick. This signage was removed when the property was rebranded as '14 On Marine'. Each flat was originally expressed on the external facade with a simple rectangular reinforced concrete frame. This basic and honest structural grid was modified at some stage by the addition of sloping buttresses and heavy segmental arches. (William Martinson, March 2025) |
