The Alabama Hotel was bought from Martienssen Brewery by SA Breweries in 1899. The hotel operated until c1969 and was then vacant until 1971 when National Retreaders and later Aqua Motors took occupation. When Rennie inspected it in Nov 1977, it housed Anthony Byrne Upholstery amongst other businesses. It was bought by the distillery company EW Sedgwick and Co in 1982, upgraded and renamed Sedgwick House. The building currently (2025) still houses this company.
