Click to view map Coordinates: | From the 1890s to 1904 a general dealer business was situated on this stand. In 1904 Richard Watkins leased the stand and utilized the building for a store and a chemist shop. In 1906 John McIntyre bought the building and the stand lease was transferred into his name. The building was divided in two sections, one half operated as a chemist and the other as the Royal Hotel Bottle Store. In 1913 Jack Steckoll, son-in-law of Charles Chaitow, rented the chemist part of the building from McIntyre. In 1929 McIntyre died and Steckoll bought the building from McIntyre's Estate and the stand lease was transferred into his name. Steckoll leased this stand until 1946 when he sold the building to Mrs Sheila MacFarlane. Sheila Marguerite MacFarlane was the wife of Cameron MacFarlane (owner of the Royal Hotel from 1941 to 1945) and the daughter of Maud Mary Lilley (née Purcell) who was the first white baby born on the Pilgrim's Rest Goldfields. Sheila MacFarlane owned the business, named Mrs Mac's, from 1946 to the early 1970s. (Rene Reinders. 2016:Item 25. Submitted by Annelise Lange) Books that reference Mrs Mac's General Dealer
