Methodist Church
Barkly East, Eastern Cape

Date:1885
Type:Methodist Church
Status:Unknown

The foundation stone of the Church was laid by Mrs S Giddy, the wife of the Rev Richard Giddy and daughter of Hezekiah Sephton, an 1820 Settler, on 27th March 1885. […] The Methodist church has always sought to maintain friendly relations with the whole community. At the beginning of the century, when the Dutch Reformed Church was being rebuilt, our Church was put at their disposal. They greatly appreciate this gesture and besides making a donation, the Rev F W R Gie presented us with a Pulpit Bible. […] Today [1973] the Methodist Church in Barkly East is not very strong due to removals and the death of several very loyal members. In addition to a weekly service in Barkly East, two services per month are held at both Wartrail and Belmore.
