This was a prefabricated cast-iron tower fitted with lenses and lanterns supplied by Chance Brothers of Smethwick, England, floated on a bed of mercury. The location proved ineffective and in 1905 it was decided to dismantle and relocate it as the Green Point Lighthouse (Umkomaas).
