See more photographs Once one of the centres of the District Six Muslim community that was displaced by forced relocation in terms of the Group Areas Act in the 1960s. Together with the Ellesmere Street Mosque and the Aspeling Street Mosque this mosque remained a centre of worship for the displaced congregants. With the destruction of District Six, Muir Street was one of very many streets that disappeared. The newly created Chapel Street now runs past the mosque.
