Born in Paris, he studied art at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, London and Brussels. He immigrated to South Africa in 1932 or 1934 and lived in Johannesburg. He was commissioned to do work on many buildings including aluminium grille-work and relief panels for Broadcast House and sandblasted glass panels in the lift lobbies of Loveday House, both in Johannesburg. He left for the USA in 1954 and settled in New York. His wife Eugenie with their three sons followed the next year. He received many international awards and honours for his art during his lifetime.
