BArch 1989 (Pretoria) (cum laude) - Final design title: Project S - Urban Tectonic Action and the Problem of Substantiation

Eloise LOUBSER was invited to participate in the 50 year Anniversary of the University of Pretoria School of Architecture Alumni Exhibition held at the Pretoria Art Gallery on 7-25 July 1993. The following is a short biography which was published in the catalogue at the time.

B.Arch (cum laude) 1989 at UP.
1989 ISAA award for best final year student in design.
1989 award by the Concrete Assosiation of South Africa for the best use of concrete in a thesis project.
Spent half a year in Denmark and Spain.

The adventure continues in practice in South Africa.
Since 1990 work for SAMUEL PAUW ARCHITECTS on a broad variety of projects wich address all fascets of the South African architectural debate. These range from commercial developments, up-market and low cost housing projects to education centres and restoration.
Work centers around the belief in an ecosystemic approach to design, striving for an appropriate fascilitating architecture.

While this experience is hands-on, simultaneous involvement in architectural education allows for reciprocal enrichment.
Lecturing at UP since 1991 in design theory, history of architecture and as design studiomaster.
Guest lecturer at the architecture departments of the UOVS and UCT in 1993.

Personal theoretical enquiry into architecture is continued through research. Currently investigating influences from Africa on the work of N M EATON in view of a critical reading of his endeavours to create appropriate architecture.
