Pierre SWANEPOEL was invited to participate in the 50 year Anniversary of the University of Pretoria School of Architecture Alumni Exhibition held at the Pretoria Art Gallery on 7-25 July 1993. The following is a short biography which was published in the catalogue at the time.

Pierre SWANEPOEL was born on the 14Pretoria University School of Architecture.

During 1987 he did practical work at two professional offices in Pretoria.

In 1988 he competed in the annual Des Baker competition for architectural students and was awarded second prize. He was also awarded the Concrete Society Student Award and the Corobrick prize for the innovative use of concrete and brick respectively.

At the end of 1989 Pierre was awarded the Progress Lighting Award for the highest average in the subjects Design and Building Science at the University of Pretoria.

In 1990 he designed a Genetic Research Centre as part of his final year thesis. He obtained the highest marks in both Design and Building Science and was awarded his degree with distinction.

He obtained the highest marks in Design in his third, fourth and fifth years at the University of Pretoria.

In 1991 he joined the firm TALJAARD CARTER ARCHITECTS where he entered various competitions on behalf of the firm. The new residence on the Wits Campus, the David Webster Hall, was one of the schemes. He was also awarded the 1991 EPPIC (Integrated Environmental Management) National Student Award for his thesis.

Work done in 1992 includes the new Head Office Building for the Standard Bank of South Africa, Prima Bank and the new Head Office Building for Genmin, where he is presently (1993) heading the design team.

In 1992 he was appointed an associate of TALJAARD CARTER ARCHITECTS and during June of that year travelled extensively in Europe.

In 2000 he founded StudioMAS.

He was the Milde McWilliams Memorial Laureate in 2009 with "An Urban Architecture in South Africa".
