| | PERRY and LIGHTFOOTEstablished:
Architect |
The partnership between J PERRY & B St Clair LIGHTFOOT in Cape Town 1936 until about 1938. They were awarded the Cape Provincial Institute of Architects' Bronze Medal Award in 1937 for their design of the British Commissioner's Office in Parliament Street, Cape Town. According to The Architect & Builder (Dec 1970:31), Lightfoot 'won for his firm two important competitions: the Johannesburg Public Library and the Johannesburg Law Courts.' Both competitions predate the official partnership notice in 1935 and it is evident that Lightfoot was already working in Perry's office before 1935. The firm also won the competitions for the YWCA in Bloemfontein (1933?) and for the Robertson Boys' High School (c1934?).
Submitted and entry for the Competition for the new Prime Minister's Residence - unplaced. All truncated references not fully cited in 'References' are those of Joanna Walker's original text and cited in full in the 'Bibliography' entry of the Lexicon. List of projects With photographs
