The buildings of brick or stone cores, particularly of the late C19 and early C20 fitted and embellished with prefabricated materials from the indutrialised nations of the north, particularly leaded windows and doors, pressed steel ceilings and cornices, cast iron add-ons or stand alone urban pieces such as stoeps, porticos, arcades, bandstands, monuments and fountains (particularly as supplied by MacFarlanes), patterned earthernware mouldings, fireplaces of cast iron or later numbered piece fired clay as manufactured locally by Kirkness of Pretoria
