Neo-Byzantine

A movement created mainly by Gerard MOERDYK who advocated the use of the Byzantine (with elements of the Renaissance) as the proper style for the Afrikaans churches replacing the up to then fashionable 'neo-gothic'. It shows strong 'Arts and Crafts' elements especially under MOERDYK's hand. (E.g. Pretoria East Dutch Reformed Church: architect MOERDYK)
