A Muslim ceremony at which a sheep (also called korbaan) is killed and offered in thanksgiving of a safe return from a pilgrimage to Mecca. The sheep is slaughtered over a hole into which all the blood, skin and other parts of the animal not required are consigned and buried. The meat is cut up into pieces (sadaka or zakaat) which are given to poor relatives and friends.
