| Lexicon South Africa Council for Architects (SACA) _____________________________________________________ The Architects Act 35 of 1970 was promulgated to regulate the Architectural Profession, previously regulated by The Architects' and Quantity Surveyors' Private Act No 18 0f 1927. This Act established the South African Council for Architects (SACA). SACA commenced operations on or around 1 March 1970. The Architects Act 35 of 1970 remained in force for a period of almost 30 years. It regulated Professional Architects only. It replaced the then Central Council and Board of the Institute of South African Architects (ISAA), once under the Minister of Eduction, thereafter under the Minister of Public Works. Its duties included the determining of standards for registration as a practicing architect, scope of works, scales of fees, maintenance of registers and inspection of (at the time six) Schools of Architecture of the Republic of South Africa. It could enter agreements with other countries and litigate on behalf of the profession of architects. In 2000 it was superseded by the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP). | |||||||
