Urban Foundation, The

The Urban Foundation (UF) was founded by Harry Oppenheimer in late 1976 after the 1976 Soweto Youth Uprising with the objective 'To promote and co-ordinate involvement by the private sector in the improvement of the quality of life of communities on a non-political and non-racial basis'.
The UF wound up business in 1995 after the holding of fully democratic elections in 1994. It merged with the Consultative Business Movement to become the National Business Initiative.
