Five Freedoms Forum

When amongst the founders of Architects Against Apartheid (AAP), Hans SCHIRMACHER and Leon VAN SCHAIK, left the country, the others regrouped to become a foundation member of the human rights organization, the Five Freedoms Forum. Under the Chairmanship of Ivan SCHLAPOBERSKY the members started an architectural drafting school in the Alexandra Arts Centre in Alexandra Township which has continued to give classes tin 1994 under the Chairman, Clive CHIPKIN, and Henry PAINE.
The Five Freedoms Forum (FFF) was founded in 1986 in response to a call from the black community for whites to show response to the State of Emergency, was made up of organisations ranging from human rights groups to religious, political, professional and student organisations. The aim of one country and one people in South Africa was to be achieved by striving for the five freedoms: freedom from want, freedom of speech and association, freedom from fear, freedom of conscience and freedom from discrimination.
