Notes: This water-wheel is one of the few of its kind remaining in South Africa. Designed by Piet BURGER, one of the first colonists in the area, it is mounted on a furrow on the canal and operates by means of a series of pulleys in much the same manner as those at Kakamas. The wheel is still in excellent condition and is a well-known landmark on the canal at Keimoes, in front of a beautiful vineyard. (Richardson 2001:53) |
