LAST OUTSPAN

The ashes of General Smuts were strewn on September 24 on this hallowed ground on a 300 ft high koppie, a mile from the homestead at Doornkloof, Irene, where a monolith was erected by the Smuts family to the memory of General and Mrs. Smuts's son, Japie, and three other of their children who died in their infancy at the beginning of the century. Their ashes have also been strewn on this koppie.
