Marambane Primary School
Mashishing (Lydenburg), Mpumalanga

Date:1941
Type:School
Status:Extant

This building was the first to be built by the "Lydenburg United Churches" in 1941. Dr. De Jager officially opened the school in March 1941. Marambane School was named after the Marambane River (so named after the gold diggers in the area, called Abomahambane - to move from one place to another). The school originally accommodated both Zulu and Sotho speaking children. In 1963 the school divided with the Zulu-speaking children remaining while Lesodi School was established for the Sotho speaking children.
