This complex was originally designed in classic Cape Dutch style for the Western Province and its wine industry at the Empire Exhibition.

The building now forms part of the West campus of the University of the Witwatersrand and is used as the staff club.

The scanned photograph is from 'Gutsche, Thelma. A very Smart Medal - The Story of the Witwatersrand Agricultural Society, Howard Timmins, Cape Town, 1970; opposite pg 148'. The initials below the photo are a mistake and should clearly be F.L.H.
