The Komgha Public School was opened on Tuesday 10 October 1911 by Sir Thomas Muir, Supt. Gen. of Education in the Cape, from 1892 to 1915. One of Muir’s principal educational reforms was the introduction of a building scheme for schools, under which schools could raise capital on long-term loan. One of the fine school buildings that resulted was the Komgha Public School. Muir opened the school building on his way through Komgha while on tour to Butterworth and Kenhardt in October 1911.
