".... Contemporary with these works, in which a degree of Italianate detailing is evident, was the largest of all the houses associated with Baker in the Cape, Trovato. Although he later declined to acknowledge his authorship of this house, built for Carl Jeppe in Herschel Walk, Wynberg, numerous drawings exist that establish his involvement in its design. The matter is confused by the existence of two undated floor plans signed by Herbert Baker 'for' Sydney Stent, a local architect. One of these was stamped as approved by the Wynberg Municipality in July 1897, giving an approximate date for the design. It would be interesting to know just how this commission came into Baker's hands but only the plans have come to light. Possibly Stent was simply unable to cope with this large commission owing to his failing health. Sydney Stent died the following year at the age of fifty-two." (Keath 1992:51)

It has been the Southern African Head Office of an international company for aloe vera products since 1996.
