The National Monuments Council Plaque reads: TOWN HALL, QUEENSTOWN THIS SANDSTONE BUILDING, THE CORNER-STONE OF WHICH WAS LAID IN MAY 1882, WAS DESIGNED BY THE ARCHITECT SIDNEY [sic] STENT. IT WAS BUILT ON THE SITE OF THE ORIGINAL TOWN HALL ERECTED IN 1858. National Monuments Council STADSAAL, QUEENSTOWN HIERDIE SANDSTEENGEBOU, WAARVAN DIE HOEKSTEEN IN MEI 1882 GELÊ IS, IS DEUR DIE ARGITEK SIDNEY [sic] STENT ONTWERP. DIT IS OPGERIG OP DIE TERREIN VAN DIE OORSPRONKLIKE STADSAAL WAT IN 1858 GEBOU IS. Raad vir Nasionale Gedenkwaardighede 1982 In front of the Town Hall entrance are two Commemorative Lamp Poles erected in 1915 in appreciation of the services of James Lamont who was mayor from 1909 to 1915. On the night of 31 January 2022 the building was burnt to the ground. See newspaper reports in The Rep and The Citizen.
