Click to view map Coordinates: | (SAWW 1908; SAB Jun 1937:60; Cape Times 13.4.1983:15) Originally built in 1904, alterations were made in 1937. The South African News closed down in 1915 and their building in Cape Town, custom-built to house a newspaper company, became available. The newly established Nasionale Pers rented it from that year (at first only a section of the building) and bought it in 1924. In those early days it housed the company’s offices as well as the printing division. The newspaper De Burger (in Dutch) which first appeared in July 1915 and in 1922 became Die Burger (Afrikaans), was produced here. This was followed by the magazine De Huisgenoot (1916) and several other publications introduced over the years. The building was colloquially known as Keeromstraat 30 and Die Burger-gebou. Nasionale Pers vacated the building in 1981 and moved to Media24 - Sanlam Centre - Naspers Centre, renaming it the Naspers Building. Submitted by Lila Komnick.
