Kesting 1978:791, says FREEMAN worked in association with AH REID; Wendland in SALQB Dec 1967:58, notes the designs were submitted in competition. Hoevers 2005:40 and Richardson 2001:18 attribute the design to James BISSET. The congregation in their history of the church NG Grootkerk Graaff-Reinet Geskiedenis have the architect as BISSET.
