The first wood-and-iron temple was constructed for M.M. Govender in Temple Road in 1910 by Veerasamy Naidoo. It was replaced by a brick and concrete building in 1931 The builder and sculptor was Alaga Pillay who worked with a local building team. Kavadi is celebrated in January or February of each year.
