There was an older Hansa Hotel on this site, which Parker redesigned for Ohlssons Cape Breweries in 1901. Parker's Hansa Hotel consisted of five storeys. It was renamed the Manchester Hotel in 1911. Internal changes were made by Parker & Forsyth in 1936, eg the kitchen was moved from the fourth to the first floor. (Extracted from Walker 2015:12).
