(PSB:41) Dennis Edwards & Co include this hotel in their Cape Town Guide (1897: p109) as one of the leading hotels in Cape Town at the time. This was the second hotel of that name. The original hotel was a few doors away, on the site of the present Ritz Hotel. The 1950 edition of the City of Cape Town Official Guide states that the hotel had 17 rooms and 4 bathrooms.
