In 1892 G M Alexander redesigned the layout of this single-storey hotel for Ohlsson’s Cape Breweries, converting existing rooms and adding two bedrooms. From late 1892 onwards OCB contracted John Parker for the design and upgrading of all their hotels. The Mechanics’ Hotel closed in 1919 and the premises were then occupied by Unie Medicine Trading Co (extracted from Walker 2015: 6; Pryce-Lewis list item 2 819).
