The cornerstone was unveiled by Dr Andrew Murray on 8 April 1905. The building cost £19600. The organ imported from London, the pews imported from Egypt, the pulpit and the lighting cost an additional £4570. The overpowering feature of the interior of the church is the wooden bows symbolising Christ’s crown of thorns.

The church together with its burial vaults was declared a National Monument in 1982 and is now a Provincial Heritage Site.

DIE TORINGKERK
Hierdie kerk is in 1904-1907 opgerig en op 6 Maart 1907 ingewy. Die bouplanne is
ontwerp deur E Sherwood en H D Pitts van die Kaapstadse argiteksfirma Sherwood,
Pitts & Wood. Die boukontrakteur was die Paarlse firma De Villiers, Larsson & Co.
Die orrel is vervaardig deur Norman & Beard van Londen en Norwich, en is in 1942
herbou. Die kerk bied sitplek vir ongeveer 2000 mense. Die toring is 57 meter hoog.

THE "TORINGKERK"
This church was erected in 1904-1907 and was inaugurated on 6 March 1907. The building
was designed by E Sherwood and H D Pitts of the Cape Town firm of architects Sherwood,
Pitts & Wood. The building contractor was the firm de Villiers, Larsson & Co. of Paarl.
The organ was constructed by Norman & Beard of London & Norwich, and was rebuilt
in 1942. The church can seat about 2000 persons. The height of the tower is 57 metres.
