In 1915 Sir Drummond Chaplin purchased land in Noordhoek. As there was no suitable residence he commissioned Sir Herbert Baker to draw up plans for the landmark residence 'Noordhoek'. The building was completed in 1925 under the supervision of Percy Walgate, Baker's assistant. The estate was known as the Sir Drummond Chaplin's Estate. Later part of the De Goede Hoop Estate.
