Apparently built between 1862 and 1878, as the footprint of the building is shown on Wilson's survey (1878) but not on Snow's (1862). Directories reveal that the property was originally a house named 'Earl's Court'. John R. Wiley, who bought the house in 1903, changed the name to 'Kingsfold'. Wiley evidently made some alterations, as the 1904 directory states the Kingsfold was 'rebuilding'. From 1910 to 1950, the property was listed as a boarding house or residential hotel, under various proprietors. Aerial surveys show that the hotel originally had a large garden extending down to Mill Street, but this was built over in the 1950s. The buildings were demolished between 1968 and 1971. Demolished, together with its neighbour the International Hotel and about a dozen houses, for the construction of the Gardens Shopping Centre in the 1970s. (Arthur Radburn, January 2026)
