14 miles from Durban. One of the larger sugar cane tramway systems operated from the mill into the adjacent plantations consisting of 120 miles of line trackage. The system closed in 1966. A public notice in The Natal Mercury on 20 December 1879 advised that with effect from 1 January 1880, the station bearing the name Saccharine Hill would change to Mount Edgecumbe (soon thereafter the spelling was changed to Mount Edgecombe).
