Kommetjie Hotel
Kommetjie, Western Cape

Date:1923
Type:Hotel
Status:Demolished 2024
Street:20 Huskisson Road (between Teubes and Erica Roads)

The hotel was later converted into shops and apartments, and renamed 'Swan Lodge'. It was gutted by fire in December 2021, and the ruins were demolished in December 2024.

The building had a heritage grading of 3C ("significant in the context of a streetscape or direct neighbourhood"), because of its "association with the WWII war effort as accommodation for the women staff at the radio station"; it was a landmark (historically and socially) which formed a coherent streetscape with the building next door. The Cape Town city council describes it as a "much altered building with few original elements" which had a good interface with the street and contributed to the context of the area.
