Loch Athlone Dam is located in the upper Vaal Water Management area near Bethlehem in the Free State. It is a popular recreational venue and resort within the Pretoriuskloof Nature Reserve, which, with the dam wall, is a declared Provincial Heritage Site (see SAHRIS).
