Allemanskraal Dam

Build as part of the Sand-Vet Government Water Scheme on the Sand River south of Virginia, Free state Province. The other dam of this Scheme is the Erfenis Dam on the Vet River. It is of the concrete gravity and earth type dams. The wall is 38m above its foundations. Its crest length is 1 338m. It has an uncontrolled spillway. It is located within the Willem Prinsloo Game Reserve. A pleasure resort on the northern bank caters for visitors to the reserve, anglers, yachtsmen and watersport enthusiasts.
