Undertaken as one of the seven bridge projects in the development of the lowering of main rail lines and preparations for the construction of the Third Park Station : Johannesburg Main Railway Station. It was developed at a cost of £220 000 [R440 000], requiring 20 000 metric tonnes of concrete and 1 200 metric tonnes of steel, spanning 300m (SAR+H Magazine (November 1952) Vol 46 Issue 11 p.676)
